Comments: My father's grandfather was Harry O'Connell, who left Co. Clare in the 1880s and settled in London, England. He also took the "O" off our name. Harry O'Connell's son, Harry Connell, married Jeanette Deane and lived in Hungerford Road, Holloway, London. His son, another Harry Connell married Elizabeth Porter, whose mother was a Healey (more Irishness). They lived in London. |

Comments: My grandfather was Leo Neil O'Connell, he came to Canada in 1914 with his father James O'Connell and mom Cora Marie. They came to Saskatchewan in 1914 from Rochester Minnesota where they had probably immigrated from county Kerry, Ireland. |

Comments: I have researched my family tree up to my great-grandfather James O'Connell. However it seems every 2nd person in Ireland (county Kerry) had that name, it is virtually impossible to get any further. His wife's name was Cora Marie (don't know the maiden name) they had 4 children: Paul, Lawrence, Leo and Clarice. Leo was my grandfather (I've never met him) the James O'Connell family came to Canada in 1914 from Rochester, Minnesota, originally from county Kerry. Any suggestions how to get further? |
Name: Gary O’Connell Email: godesign@hfx.eastlink.ca Date : Nov. 06 05 Hello. Living in Nova Scotia, Canada. I got back to 1810 where a James O’Connell was buried with his wife Loiuse who he married here. Their daughter Catherine and son Joseph passed on early at 14 and 23. I find genealogy fascinating and stumbling on this site and after seeing pics.... well let’s say it’s not hard to tell we are from a similar background. I hope to someday find out more about James O’Connell and when he emigrated from Kilkenny (on his headstone). His death isn’t shown either. Anyway, great site that warmed me when I stumbled on it. Warm regards Gary O’Connell

Comments: I would like to come in contact with other O'Connells. My brother and I are the only ones left in our lineage here. The name of our great grandfather was William and that of his wife was Lillian. Maybe someone can help me locate relatives. Thank you. |

Comments: Interesting website, which came up pretty quickly when I typed "Pittsburgh Railways" into Google. I am a 1983 graduate of Central Catholic in Pittsburgh. Both of my grandfathers emigrated from Ireland (Kerry and Tyrone respectively) after World War I, and both worked at the Pittsburgh Railways "Car Barns" in Homewood. I suspect that they probably knew, or knew of, your father. Did you attend Saint Agnes or Saint Regis or the Cathedral growing up? My father (now 84 and thankfully still in good health back home in Pittsburgh) tells me that many Irish immigrants worked at the trolley car repair shops there. Speaking of Atwood Street and South Oakland, I took my wife and 2 children recently to South Bouquet Street to take the steps (Diulis Way) down into Junction Hollow. Since it was raining, I made the trek alone - saw a flock of wild turkeys down there crossing Boundary Street! Thanks for a respectful and heartwarming website about 2 great Irish folk from Pittsburgh!! |
